The Government of Belize through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MTC) has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), toward the cost of the Belize Sustainable Tourism Program and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this loan to payments under the Contract for the construction, delivery and installation of the Xunantunich ferry.

The scope will include:

  • Fabrication of a steel ferry to transport vehicles and passengers across the Macal River.
  • Steel ferry base structure to measure 35ft x 20 ft and 4 ft depth with two timber ramp
  • Driveways of 16ft x 12 ft at either end, and a galvanized metal and timber roof structure to a height of 15ft 6” to its apex.
  • The ferry will incorporate a motor assisted crank driven system for movement along a 1 ¼ inch steel towing cable with a tensile strength of 60 tons.
  • Transport and installation at the entrance to Xunantunich at the site of existing ferry San Jose Succotz, Belize.
